As part of HDR’s healthcare design team, Sharon Lan, NCIDQ, contributed to the Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital — a 320,000-square-foot, nine-story facility that will redefine care delivery for the Westside community. The project represents Cedars-Sinai’s first ground-up hospital beyond its flagship campus and reflects the institution’s ongoing commitment to innovation, accessibility, and healing.

Working closely with architects, consultants, and user groups, Sharon supported the development and documentation of interior design for patient-care areas, surgical suites, and public spaces. The design draws inspiration from the nearby marina, with calm waves, natural light, and fluid patterns guiding the aesthetic language throughout.

From the lobby to the upper-floor terraces, every space is conceived as part of a healing journey. Materials and textures reference the sea’s restorative qualities, while daylight and outdoor views connect patients and visitors to a sense of openness and renewal. The result is a contemporary healthcare environment that strikes a balance between clinical precision and a serene, human-centered experience.
